Gastro Testing

Comprehensive Gastrointestinal Testing: Diagnosing and Monitoring GI Health

Gastro testing encompasses a range of diagnostic procedures focused on the gastrointestinal (GI) system, which includes essential organs like the stomach, intestines, liver, and pancreas. These tests are vital for diagnosing and monitoring conditions affecting the GI tract.

Some common gastro testing procedures include:

  • Upper Endoscopy (EGD): A flexible tube with a camera is inserted through the mouth to examine the esophagus, stomach, and upper small intestine. It helps diagnose conditions such as ulcers, inflammation, and tumors.
  • Colonoscopy: A long, flexible tube with a camera is used to view the colon’s lining, screening for colorectal cancer and diagnosing conditions like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and polyps.
  • Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS): Combines endoscopy and ultrasound to examine the upper GI tract and nearby structures, aiding in the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, gallstones, and digestive tumors.
  • Capsule Endoscopy: Involves swallowing a small camera capsule that captures images of the small intestine, diagnosing conditions like Crohn’s disease and small intestinal tumors.
  • Liver Function Tests (LFTs): Blood tests assess liver function by measuring enzymes, proteins, and substances produced or processed by the liver, diagnosing conditions like hepatitis and cirrhosis.
  • Stool Tests: Analyze stool samples for blood, parasites, bacteria, or viruses, aiding in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal bleeding, infections, and digestive disorders.
  • Breath Tests: Measure gases produced by digestive bacteria, diagnosing conditions such as lactose intolerance and bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine.

These procedures represent just a few examples of gastro testing. The specific tests recommended depend on the patient’s symptoms, medical history, and suspected GI conditions. It’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional for proper evaluation and management.

Precision in Gastrointestinal Testing

A skilled technician prepares samples for advanced gastrointestinal testing, ensuring accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning for GI conditions.

Ensuring Sample Integrity

A laboratory professional carefully handles samples in a controlled environment, maintaining the integrity necessary for accurate gastrointestinal testing results.
